Derek S. Lee 이 성 훈
Derek Lee는 한국에서 기반으로 활동하는 인테리어 디자이너로 최근 Royal College of Art에서 인테리어 디자인 석사를 졸업하였다. 여러 대규모의 혼합 공공 공간을 전문으로 하는 Derek은 개방적이고 적응력이 뛰어나 항상 경험적 디자이너로서 자신의 작업에 새로운 아이디어, 재료 및 기술을 적용하기 위해 도전한다. 그는 공간에 머무는 사람들의 라이프스타일, 행동, 움직임, 감각들을 유심히 관찰하여 현대 예술의 비율, 형태, 색상 팔레트에서 끊임없이 영감을 얻으려고 노력한다. Derek Lee가 생각하는 인간은 우리 삶의 반 이상을 건축된 실내에서 존재한다고 본다. 공간은 거주자들이 느끼고 행동하는 방식에 직접적인 영향을 미친다고 생각하듯이 공간 디자인은 단순한 시각적 표현을 넘어 일종의 사고과정이며 삶을 구성하는 능력을 통해 인류를 향상시키는 도구라고 생각한다. Derek은 스케치 및 모델 연구에서 비롯된 프로세스와 스토리의 중요성을 굳게 믿어 더 강력한 공간 정체성의 만드는 기반으로 사용한다.
Derek Lee is a Korea-based interior designer and recently graduated MA Interior Design at the Royal College of Art. While specialising in large mixed use public spaces, Derek is open-minded and adaptable, always challenging himself as an experiential designer to adopt new ideas, materials, and techniques in his practice.
He is highly observant of the people who inhabit a space - their lifestyle, behaviour, movement, and senses - and constantly draws inspiration from the arts: from the proportions, forms and colour palettes of contemporary artwork to the rhythm and notes of classical music.
Humans spend 89% of our lives within a built interior. ‘The space’ directly affects the way its inhabitants feel and behave; such that spatial design is beyond mere visuality, it is a thought process, a tool to enhance humanity through its ability to frame lives. Derek is a firm believer in the importance of the process and the story behind, coming from sketches, model studies, and research, which form the basis to a strong spatial identity.
